LSHA STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS


2009 GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP WINNER:

Katie McQuitty

University of Louisiana at Lafayette

Ms. McQuitty began the Master's program at ULL in June of 2009.  She has served as a Big Sister through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, has worked as a reading tutor, is an active member of NSSLHA, and has received the ULL Honors Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement.  She co-presented a research poster at the 2009 LSHA convention.  She dreams of one day opening a non-profit organization to serve the communication needs of those from underserved communities and hopes someday to pursue the PhD.


2009 UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP WINNER:

Kala Zaunbrecher

University of Louisiana at Lafayette

Ms. Zaunbrecher is a senior in the undergraduate program at ULL.  She has received ULL's academic excellence scholarship, is active in NSSLHA and volunteer activities.  She is a member of both Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Alpha Theta.  Her future educational plans include going on to pursue the Master's and PhD degrees.


Attention all Universities!!!


LSHA will be seeking student nominations in the spring of each year for two LSHA Scholarships in the amount of $500.00 each to be awarded at the Annual Convention.  One $500.00 Undergraduate Award and one $500.00 Graduate Award will be given. 

Criteria are as follows:

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in the State of Louisiana or will be admitted for the Fall Semester/Quarter of current year.

  • Must be majoring in the field of Speech-Language Pathology/Communication Disorders/Audiology

Each student will be rated on the following:

  • Overall grade point average (copy of transcript not necessary, faculty member must verify GPA in his/her nominating letter)

  • Financial need

  •  NSSLHA membership and participation

  • Honors or recognition by a university or college

  • Community service

  • Plans, goals, or objectives for professional future

When the nominations period begins, the following must be submitted in order to nominate a student:

  • A detailed nominating letter from the faculty member addressing the above relevant issues, as well as the applicant’s ability to represent the character, skill, and spirit of the profession; and,

  • A letter from the applicant addressing personal issues listed above and, if not presently enrolled in a graduate program, proof of acceptance for Fall of the current year.
