PUBLIC SCHOOLS COMMITTEE


This committee has been established to increase networking between LSHA, SPALS, the state agency and different school districts in order to exchange information regarding identification and resolution of school related issues and to link with state and national resources.

The committee is comprised of a core advisory group with core group members who themselves will develop extended committees based on university and parish involvement within the different regions of the state.

    5. Patty Carbajal  (Patricia.Carabajal@stpsb.org)
  2. at least one representative from each educational region (to be appointed)
  3. SPALS representative ( to be selected by SPALS board of directors)
  4. Representative from the state department Phyllis Butler (Phyllis.Butler@LA.GOV)
  5. LSHA representative (selected from university and legislative committees)
    1. Nancye Roussel (ncroussel@louisiana.edu) – Director of Universities
    2. Steve Harris ((sharris@stmary.k12.la.us) - Chair of Legislative Committee

Extended committees:

Representatives from each educational region

Representatives from each school district within the region 

            University Committee representative

            Representatives from each accredited university

            Other groups to be developed as needed.

 Objectives of the group:

1.                  Determine problematic issues facing schools

2.                  identify different legislation which can impact either positively or negatively the schools

3.                  brainstorm possible solutions

4.                  determine procedures which would lead towards possible solutions of issues raised

5.                  outline steps towards possible solutions

6.                  determine accountability issues

7.                  increase networking/ supports

8.                  identify continuing education needs
