LSHA/SPALS 2016 Day at the Capitol Summary
The LSHA/SPALS Day at the Capitol occurred within the Capitol Rotunda on May 3, 2016. Professionals and graduate students in attendance represented various universities, schools, medical sites, and private practices.
As May is Better Hearing and Speech month, professionals and graduate students participated in the opportunity to educate and advocate for the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology as well as the clients we serve. Hearing screenings were offered to those attending the legislative sessions and visitors at the Capitol.
The Louisiana Practice Act, ASHA’s Code of Ethics, and information regarding billing and coding of services were discussed during a professional presentation providing .15 ASHA CEUs. Following the presentation, participants were able to identify proposed updates to the Louisiana Practice Act, identify changes to ASHA’s Code of Ethics, and describe billing and coding information for the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology.
