2007 LSHA AWARDS LSHA HONORS OF THE ASSOCIATION Kerri Phillips- Speech-Language Pathologist, Associate Professor at Louisiana Tech University- Ruston Kerri was nominated for this high honor for her service to the field of speech-language pathology and audiology, to her fellow professionals, and to the consumers of services in Louisiana. Kerri served as on the Board of Directors for many years and was lucky enough to be the LSHA President during the 2005 “Katrina year”. She well-represented Louisiana during the disaster and confusing professional aftermath of the storm. Kerri has also served two terms on the Louisiana Licensing Board and was elected Chair during her second term. She currently holds a teaching position at Louisiana Tech where she co-ordinates the graduate program and mentors all the students in speech-language pathology. Her high qualifications in the areas of clinical services, teaching, program administration, supervision, liaison with other agencies, and service to LSHA make her well- qualified to receive this award. Janna Oetting- Speech-Language Pathologist, Professor Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge Janna was nominated for this honor for her outstanding abilities as a teacher, well-respected researcher and leading authority in the field of language disorders. She has accrued an impressive record of service to ASHA acting as an invited reviewer for all of ASHA professional journals since 1995. She served LSHA by acting as a member of the Board of Directors from 1992 until 2001. She held various offices during those years culminating in her Presidency in 2001. She still is a frequent presenter at LSHA and mentors her students to be actively involved in professional organizations. Her high qualifications in the areas of publications and research, teaching, program administration, and service to LSHA and ASHA make her well-qualified to receive this award. JEANETTE LAGUAITE AWARD Frances Billeaud- Speech-Language Pathologist, Formerly Director, Clinical Activities, Department of Communicative Disorders, University of Southwestern Louisiana-Lafayette Frances was nominated by her peers for this high honor for her abilities over the last 40 professional years as a clinician, mentor, researcher, and founding member of LSHA. She has received numerous awards from both ASHA and LSHA over her significant career including the the ASHA Louis Dicarlo Award for recent clinical achievements, the ASHA Kelffner Award for a distinguishing lifetime of clinical achievements in the field, LSHA Honors of the Association and LSHA Fellow of the Association. Frances served as LSHA president in 1973 and 1974 held various offices and committee chairmanships and is still serving LSHA as the Director for University Services. Frances’s accomplishments attest to contributions in publications, teaching, clinical supervision, research, program administration, and collaboration with other professions and make her well-qualified to receive this award. SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD Nanette Massey- Occupational therapist, Assistant Professor LSUHSC-Shreveport. Nanette has received this award in recognition by her colleagues for the support and co-treatment she has given to help individuals with speech and language disorders. She is known for her professional expertise and for her important role in educating speech-language pathology students. She is a strong advocate for families of children with speech, language and hearing disorders and has been involved with the deaf community and serves as an interpreter when needed. Elizabeth Thornton- Senior Association Coordinator, Postlethwaite & Netterville CPA firm Elizabeth has her B.A.degree in Restaurant and Tourism and has served as the LSHA Association Coordinator since 2004. Her contributions to LSHA are outstanding and readily apparent to all members of the association that have had contact with her. She is a model of professionalism and is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of LSHA. Without her assistance, the planning and execution of the convention, the newsletter, membership issues and the Board meetings would be almost impossible. LSHA sincerely appreciates all the effort Elizabeth has given us over the years. Marlene DesRoches- Speech-Language Pathologist, Clinical Supervisor and Instructor, Southeastern Louisiana University-Hammond Marlene was nominated by her peers for outstanding contribution to the field of speech-language pathology. She has over 20 years experience in the field and was originally a school-based therapist working with children of poverty. Since 1994 she has worked at the university level and was nominated because of her abilities as an outstanding instructor and mentor to students in the field of communication disorders. For the last 13 years her summer language camps have been very beneficial for both students and clinicians. Her students described her as their” all time favorite” teacher. |
